Yolanda Valdés Rementería: Explorando nuestra humanidad (Exploring our Humanity)

Yolanda Valdés Rementería, a native of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, is a prolific Portland-based artist and instructor with deep roots in Oregon arts and Latino communities.  A lifelong artist and advocate for equity, education, women’s rights, and farmworker rights, Ms. Valdés Rementería’s retrospective solo exhibition spanning 35 years presents artworks celebrating unity, empowerment and our diversity.  Sponsored by the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences’ Art About Agriculture program, this exhibition includes two of Ms. Valdés Rementería’s paintings that are a part of the Art About Agriculture Permanent Collection.

Ms. Valdés Rementería’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous solo, group, and juried exhibitions nationally and internationally. She studied at Escuela Normal Nueva Galicia, School of Education in Guadalajara, Mexico, Clackamas Community College, Instituto de Cooperación Iberoamericano, Museo de Prado in Madrid (Spain), and earned her Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University in 1988. As an educator, she seeks out opportunities to promote creativity as a means to enhance the learning potential of all students. Through numerous national and international community service workshops, Ms. Valdés Rementería guides her students towards finding new ways to express oneself through creating art.
