Update for the College of Agricultural Sciences Global Experience Fund

We are pleased to announce that, in keeping with the College of Agricultural Sciences’ commitment to fostering global awareness and global engagement, Dr. Hiram Larew (MS 1977, PhD 1981) has provided a new gift to establish the Global Experience Endowment Fund (“the Endowment”). The Endowment will provide a source of funds in perpetuity for the College’s Global Experience Fund (“the Fund”) which Larew established in 2012.

In recent years, the Fund grew through his donations and those given by others – all with a focus on supporting our efforts to internationalize the experiences for students and faculty in the college.  Expenditures from the Fund to date (over $ 15,000) have supported: 1) The OSU International Agriculture Student Club, 2) Participation of students in the International Association of Agriculture and related sciences (IAAS) national meeting held in Corvallis in April 2015, and 3) International internship experiences for undergraduates awarded in partnership with the ER Jackman Internship Program Since the summer of 2013, a total of 13 CAS students have participated in international internships sponsored in part or entirely by this Fund. In addition, the relatively new OSU International Agriculture Club was able to provide registration for 20 OSU students to participate in the IAAS-USA summit held in Corvallis.

The just-established Endowment is designed to provide sustained support to students and faculty who participate in the College’s global engagement programs.  Dr. Larew’s gift to seed the Endowment is being matched with $ 20,000 from the ER Jackman Enhancement Fund and $ 5,000 from the Dean’s Fund for Excellence. The Endowment will be overseen by ER Jackman in partnership with the Dean’s office to support on-going internationalization efforts. Our alumni and friends are invited to join in this effort by designating new gifts to the Global Experience Endowment Fund.

On-line gifts can be made here with a note added to specify the endowment.
