Hi Everyone,

January 2010,
Volume 1, Number 2

Some of you know what I am up to but I wanted to update the ones who think I fell off the side of the earth. Also, the company I work for just finished an awesome project I wanted you to check out!  (Read more...)

Currently I am working for a company called Sunmark based out of Portland. Sunmark is really separated into 3 branches:

-We supply seed for turf, wetlands, forages, forests, prairies, erosion control, wildflowers, native restoration, green roofs, filtration, and many other purposes.

-We have a sports side that can provide all the products to build sports fields from the soil up.

-Finally, we have our environmental branch. Here we can either design/build or supply products and systems for bioswales, green roofs, native restoration, habitat restoration, erosion control, stream/riverbank restoration, wetland construction/restoration, stormwater filtration, and many other services. We just finished a big project on the Columbia River I wanted you to check out. It was for a private residence whose home landscape was eroding away due to the river. We used a vegetated bag wall system to prevent any more erosion, restore the landscape, and provide native habitat.

Please check out our Flickr slide show on the project:

Another thing we have going on is developing a new fish passage culvert/bridge replacement (I have been pretty involved with this system). We have just completed the designs and are looking forward to work with the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife to hopefully implement this system into the streams and rivers soon.

Hope things for all of you are going well and please keep in touch with me. At least let me know what you think of our project!

Take care,

Drew Schaefer
