Biological Sciences Research Technician 1

We are currently recruiting for one full-time Biological Sciences Research Technician 1. This position provides support to technical and professional laboratory personnel by performing record keeping and other clerical tasks related to laboratory operations, preparing reagents and other media used in testing, preparing specimens for testing, and performing the varied housekeeping duties required for smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory and field laboratory. This position will also assist with field, greenhouse, and laboratory/controlled experiments. This individual will be responsible for participating in training for safety and maintaining required certifications. Promote a positive and inclusive work/team environment and ensure effective communication. Ability to interface with cross-cultural teams and all levels of personnel/management.

Biological Sciences Research Technician 3

This Biological Sciences Research Technician 3 position supports the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center (CBARC) at Oregon State University (OSU) in Moro, Oregon.

CBARC is composed of the Pendleton Station and the Sherman Station, at Moro. Center scientists conduct research at each station and many off-station locations. The CBARC staff typically includes 18 permanent and up to 12 temporary employees. Research at the Sherman Station is conducted by up to 10 scientists of different disciplines from CBARC, Corvallis campus, and the USDA – ARS at Pendleton and Pullman, WA.

This position supports the research and extension missions of CBARC by conducting farm and research plot operations, as well as research and outreach activities. The incumbent provides the necessary expertise and labor to help with the initiation of field studies, to prepare and maintain fields for use in an array of specialized research projects and to gather as requested throughout the growing season. The incumbent will serve on CBARC committees (Safety, Field Day, Special Events, etc.), and assists with the purchase of equipment, vehicles, and supplies. The person in this position functions relatively independently, and carries a high level of decision-making responsibility for the Sherman Station. This position is also required to assist the Center Operations Manager with operations at the Pendleton Station, as well as attend meetings, etc. at this location.

Student Positions

Annually we hire additional workers to help us out with the summer workload. Most positions begin the end of May/beginning of June and last through Labor Day. Typically we're looking to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week, along with some possible overtime during academic breaks) Student Technical Assistant positions. Duties include: field or bench top research, laboratory set-up and maintenance, greenhouse operations, field plotting, data collection and analysis and other related tasks, field and plot weeding, planting & transplanting of plants in the field and/or greenhouse, general farm work including but not limited to harvest activities and farm equipment awareness and safety training's as needed.
