I deeply value my family and friends. So leaving them behind in Wilsonville was a difficult decision for me. However, when I stepped into my first class freshman year, I knew immediately that attending Oregon State University was the right decision. The environment in and out of the classroom here is truly unique. The feeling of unity and family within the college ensures that everybody develops lasting friendships that they will take with them beyond their college days.

I attended two different schools before attending OSU. When I was deciding which university to attend, I discovered that Oregon State University is the only university in the state with my chosen major of general agriculture. I came to OSU in the winter term of my junior year. I found out the reason 20,000 students attend OSU: it is an awesome school. I was surprised and pleased by how easy it was to become part of the OSU “family.” As a transfer student, I faced unique challenges, but I was never without help. OSU has so many opportunities for advancement socially, academically, and professionally. I gained these opportunities through classes, clubs,
workshops, activities, and much more. It took trying three colleges, but at Oregon State University, I finally found a place that is helping me realize my goals. Go BEAVS!

My transition from a small town of 300 people in rural eastern Oregon to a large university like Oregon State University was a big adjustment. My plan was to go to class, complete homework, and occasionally go to sporting events. Fortunately, my friends urged me to take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved at OSU. Getting involved was the best decision I have ever made. Through my involvement, I have gained leadership experience, had fun, and made friendships that will last a lifetime. The College of Forestry offered a relaxed and tight-knit community atmosphere that made my transition to college go very smoothly.

I came to the conclusion my junior year of high school that I wanted to become a veterinarian. During my senior year, I visited Oregon State University and knew this was the place for me. Growing up in a small town I was never really exposed to what a place like Oregon State University had to offer. When my application to OSU was accepted, I was nervous and unsure of what I was committing to. When I finally made it to Corvallis, I discovered that OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences was the best place for me. It has become a home away from home for me. With so many opportunities to get involved I quickly realized that my college experience was going to be extremely rewarding.

I looked at several universities, and finally decided to attend Oregon State University. A few influencing factors for this decision were the numerous clubs available and the great comm
unity atmosphere of OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences. OSU has given me many great memories, experiences, and lifelong friends. My college experience has been incredible. I never thought my path would lead to Oregon State University. But here I am, and I love it. I have known for a long time that I want to teach in some capacity. After some volunteer experiences in outdoor education, I decided to pursue a natural resources degree. After a lot of research, I decided that Oregon State University is the place to go for a quality education in natural resources. I am looking forward to a career as an environmental educator where I can combine my love and enthusiasm for the outdoors with a focus on education. The College of Forestry has afforded me opportunities beyond what I imagined when I came here. Even though I never pictured myself here, coming to Oregon State University was one of the best decisions I’ve made.
