OSU has given me amazing and unforgettable experiences and many memories in the two years I have attended; I plan to gain many more in the two years to come. I feel OSU’s educational foundation has given me outstanding opportunities to excel in our diverse and interesting world, opening doors that would have never been available to me without my college education. I have made many friends and learned many new things while attending OSU. I feel the College of Agricultural Sciences allows me to be myself and decide upon my own personal educational path with exceptional guidance, information, and expertise from instructors, advisors, and staff. OSU has offered me the privilege of attending its exceptional university.

Wood Science and Technology

My name is Gary Williamson, and I am a sophomore at OSU. I'm from rural Elkton, Oregon. I graduated in a class of twenty students, and now I attend a school with over 18,000. The thought of going to OSU never rolled through my mind until I went to a seminar at my high school and found out about the OSU College of Forestry. I knew that my dreams and lifetime goals would be fulfilled here. This is where I wanted to study and further my education. Through OSU and the College of Forestry, I have encountered many unique opportunities that would not have been presented to me elsewhere. Teamwork and leadership are encouraged and empowered within the College of Forestry.

Horticulture

Hello, my name is Claire Stafford, and I am an ambassador student director. I have grown up on a family farm in the heart of the Willamette Valley. Living in a rural farm community, I have seen and learned first hand the values and beliefs of people in the agriculture and forestry industry. I have enjoyed the friendliness, work ethic, and outlook on life displayed by the agricultural and forestry communities, and knew OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences was a place I would love to call home. As I enter my junior year in horticulture, I wouldn’t change anything. The college and university make me feel right at home, and I know they would do the same for you.

General Agriculture

When I first decided to attend the College of Agricultural Sciences, I was scared because of the large size. I graduated from a small private high school and thought I would just get lost in the crowd here on campus. Once I was able to get involved in different clubs and organizations, I realized that it really was not that large. The College of Agricultural Sciences is a wonderful environment to really get to know your peers along with your professors. I am very happy with my decision to join the college and can't imagine myself anywhere else.

Agricultural Business Management

My first year at OSU was one of the most educational experiences I have ever had, both in and outside of the classroom. OSU has helped me to grow not only as a student but also as a person. Each student has the flexibility to grow and learn in his or her own way by taking advantage of the OSU’s countless resources. Some of these opportunities can be found in clubs, sports, tutoring resources, exposure to foreign cultures, innumerable leadership opportunities, volunteer possibilities, internship positions, and much more. I have found a quality education, direction, personal growth, and success with the College of Agricultural Sciences. One of the best decisions I have ever made has been to attend OSU.

Natural Resources in the College of Forestry

I knew for a long time that I wanted to come to OSU. I have gained more than just an education while a student in the College of Forestry. I have also met outstanding people and have made excellent connections that will aid me in my life, career, and educational paths. I can think of no better place to be involved with forestry and natural resources than here at Oregon State University.

Deciding to come to OSU was one of the best decisions of my life. Having grown up in a small central Oregon town of less than a thousand people, I will admit I was a little nervous about OSU’s size and making the transition to a large school. I soon discovered the university’s large size means more opportunities. The College of Agriculture Sciences has a small-town atmosphere, so it was no problem adjusting. I have been very pleased with the quality of professors and advisors, and I am amazed at how many different opportunities are available through the many clubs and organizations. I am having a great time and making the most of my college years here.

Graduating from a small Portland suburb I couldn’t wait to get away from home. My first year, I attended a university in Washington, in an attempt to leave the state. However, I could not survive without the rain and Oregon State is now the place I call home. The College of Agriculture Sciences consists of many premier departments and houses many excellent faculty and staff. The people, clubs, activities, and experiences I have been exposed to give me the chance to make new friends, expand my knowledge, and participate in many exciting events. I wish I had only begun my college career here at OSU, where I have the opportunity to become a successful graduate.

The first time that I visited Oregon State University, I realized that this was the college for me. At OSU, I found a knowledgeable and genuinely caring staff, a close group of peers within the Colleges of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry, and the educational experience of a lifetime. The opportunities to get involved in student organizations and to choose your own educational path are endless. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come to Oregon State University because I’ve found a place here where I really belong.

I knew from the time I was a high school freshman that I was going to continue my education at OSU. It was a huge transition for me to come here from a small community; however, it was a great decision. I had a great advisor who made me feel right at home. I also became involved in OSU’s clubs and organizations, where I began to fit in and make life-long friends. My experience at OSU has provided me with career, leadership, and scholarship skills I will carry with me for a lifetime. You get from your college career what you put into it, and OSU gives you plenty of opportunities to reach your highest goals.
